"During February 2009, I worked with Shane Bauer in Baghdad. He had contacted me prior to this via email asking for information about visas and working in Iraq. Once in Baghdad, Shane struck me as knowledgeable of the situation, and concerned, as was/am I, with the impact of the US occupation on the local population in Iraq. He worked diligently on stories about US-backed death squads, as well as how these forces often killed and injured innocent Iraqis.

There have been accusations made that Shane is a spy-and this seems very far-fetched to me. While I did not know Shane well before meeting him in Iraq, he is one of very few independent journalists who was working there. He opposed the US occupation of Iraq and was intent on using his pen to show the effects of the occupation to the world, in hopes of helping the Iraqi people."
